In each of our projects, we undertake the challenge to create spatially-rich designs that are functional, yet elegant and refined. We believe the most successful projects are those in which the edge between architecture and landscape is blurred, and that the integrity of the project is measurable by its well-crafted details, clarity of form and inherent beauty.
We strive to design projects that are both ecologically and fiscally sustainable. As stewards of the environment and as our client’s representatives, we are respectful of our limited natural and economic resources. As project managers, we employ resourcefulness and creativity in order to deliver the best possible design solution to our clients.
Our designs are inspired by people, places and culture. We celebrate our clients’ passion for outdoor living by creating spaces that exhibit intimacy, tranquility, discovery and amusement. Our design studio embraces the design ethos that practicing restraint is priceless, never
substituting elegance and beauty with excessiveness or gratuitous celebration. Please don't ask us to gild the lily.
The studio's design aesthetic is pure and modern, built upon a foundation of historic architectural and garden design precedents. The lines in our landscapes are clean and contemporary, composed of archetypal geometries organized along a conceptually strong architectural framework. We enhance our garden spaces with a disciplined, yet bold use of color, incorporating carefully selected building materials and a compelling combination of plant types and textures.
Building landscapes relies on the talent of skilled artisans that approach their work with an artist's passion and a life-long dedication to their craft. We believe that the investment in well-crafted landscapes allows our gardens to be legacy projects for our clients and future generations.
A successful relationship between the client, designer and contractor begins with a continuous dialogue that helps establish the architectural, environmental and project-specific program elements for the project. An active dialogue allows the design process to be continuously evolving, allowing a project to be guided by a designer's vision, shaped by a site's intrinsic geography, and imparted with the personality of a client’s needs and desires.
Our passion is the design and craft of timeless, elegant gardens.
Taking cues from regional building typologies and the architectural and landscape vernacular of the Southeastern United States, Old Florida and the Caribbean Basin, our landscape design studio incorporates a design vocabulary composed of indigenous materials and regional building traditions.
The plant palettes for our projects are culled from native and regionally-similar plant communities, where we select the most appropriate plants for each specific project site. We do not use vegetation that exploits our natural resources or plant species that are listed in the National Association of Exotic Pest Plant Council's invasive plant list.
We believe that the success of our work is built upon a foundation of multidisciplinary collaboration. We take great pride in being able to partner with local experts in the fields of architecture, engineering, horticulture, building and fabricating in order to deliver projects of the highest quality craftsmanship to our clients.
Our extensive network of design professionals based in the Mid Atlantic and Southeastern United States provides a valuable resource for sourcing hard-to-find building materials and procuring high quality specimen plant material. Our professional relationships allow our studio to draw from a vast knowledge base of expertise in the building and green industries.
A successful project is one in which the seams between
architecture and landscape are blurred.
