This 250-acre private estate, located in the heart of Wellington, Florida was inspired by the design principles of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, Jr., who designed the grounds of the this homeowner's East Aurora, New York residence in 1927. Since 2012, Carlos Somoza Landscape Architecture has collaborated with the landscape architecture firm of O'Leary Richards Design Associates on over a dozen projects ranging in scale from an intimate Japanese courtyard, to lush, verdant landscapes that unfold for almost a quarter of a mile along the estate's southern horizon.
The design team created a series of subtropical gardens that act as bright jewels strung along an elegant emerald necklace. Collector gardens and native woodland hammocks are complimented by winter flowering perennials, bold foliage and a noteworthy collection subtropical palms and exotic bamboos. The result is a pastoral countryside where the interplay of passive greens and large sweeping masses of perennials lead the eye to distant woodlands and sinuous lakes.
